IFC and COVID-19

We are living in utterly unprecedented times. Our hope as an organisation is that we will all get through these together and come out the other side of this crisis united and part of a better, kinder and more compassionate world.

As a small organisation that works overseas, and with many countries and communities on lockdown due to the novel coronavirus, there is much uncertainty ahead. The WHO declared the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) a global pandemic last month and ever since, organisations like ours have been trying to get as much information as possible in order to make plans and sense of this unexpected novel situation.

We are doing our best to keep our overseas teams supported and future placements participants informed and frequently updated. Following the lockdown extension in most countries, we have decided to cancel both placement groups scheduled for this year. This was not an easy decision to make but as the coronavirus crisis continues, it became increasingly clear that cancelling this placement group was the responsible course to take not least for the safety and well-being of all of our future placement participants and all social and educational services teams and users involved in our program, but also to help our future placement participants plan during the weeks and months ahead.

We are optimistic that our placements scheduled for next year will be able to go ahead as planned. However, we remain incredibly cautious with this optimism, as these decisions are simply not up to us.
